Release the Kraken 2 slot REVIEW

Release the Kraken 2 ReviewYou’re once again headed for the unexplored depths at the bottom of the ocean, and Release the Kraken 2 follows in the footsteps of Pragmatic Play’s original release, Release the Kraken. The underwater beast doesn’t look quite as scary in this follow-up perhaps, and you get plenty of brand new features to enjoy in the base game.

The 5x4 subsea grid is filled with somewhat exotic creatures, including sharks, blowfish and similar, and you get 2 different wild features in the base game. The Wild Respins award extra respins per new sticky roaming wild you land, while the Shifting Stack Wilds nudge in place to fill reels and award multipliers. The multiplier bonus round can lead to payouts up to 5,000x your stake.

Release the Kraken 2 Slot Features

You can turn on the Ante Bet feature between base game spins, and it costs 25 % more per spin to keep it on. This increases your bonus round chances, but by how much is not specified in the info section.

The premium symbols pay between 3 and 10 x your stake for 5 of a kind, and the Kraken Wild can land on any reel to substitute for pay symbols and help complete wins. Wilds also pay 20x your stake should you land 5 on a payline.

If you land 4+ wilds on a base game spin, the Respin Mode is triggered after the initial payout. The wilds become roaming wilds that move to new positions per respin, and you get a new respin as long as you keep landing new wilds. The feature ends after the first respin where no new wilds are added to the roaming mix.

You can land Shifting Stack Wild symbols on the 3 middle reels, and the wilds will shift to cover all positions after the spin stops. The wild multiplier increases by +1 per nudge needed to fill the entire reel, and once the nudging has stopped you get a multiplier boosted payout calculation. The multipliers are added together before being applied if there is more than one.

The Kraken can sometimes help you out on non-winning base game spins, and it will rearrange the symbols to give you a Guaranteed Win between 20 and 50 x your stake. Sometimes there can be an explosion that awards 3 scatters, which gives you the bonus round.

You need 3 scatters in view to trigger the Bonus Round, and there is a Mini Bonus Game up front you can choose to partake in. This mini game determines your number of free spins and starting win multiplier, and you get an offer up front. You can reject the offer to remove available possibilities in a Deal or No Deal fashion.

3 scatters award between 4 and 15 free spins with a multiplier up to x6.

4 scatters award between 5 and 20 free spins with a multiplier up to x10.

5 scatters award between 6 and 20 free spins with a multiplier up to x10.

The Mini Game is subject to the free spins and multiplier limits presented above, and you never know if removing options will improve or impair your feature. If you eliminate all the options except the final one, you have to accept whatever configuration of free spins and win multiplier you get.

The grid increases to give you 40 paylines in the bonus round, and the win multiplier you got will boost all wins. Wilds remain in play as long as the feature lasts when they hit, and wilds move to random positions per free spin. Golden wilds do the same, while also increasing the win multiplier by +1. There is no way to retrigger the bonus round or win extra spins.

The Bonus Buy option is available in some jurisdictions, but not in the UK for sure. If available, you can purchase the Standard Free Spins round for 100x the stake. This awards 3 to 5 triggering scatters and an RTP of 96.03 %. The VIP Free Spins round will set you back 250x your stake, and it always gives you 5 triggering scatters (96.05 % RTP).

The 200 Spins Release the Kraken 2 Slot Experience

You get only a brief taste of the base game, before we purchase the VIP Bonus Round around 30 seconds into the 3:28-minute highlights video. We rejected the first offer from the Kraken, and ended up with 15 free spins with an x4 starting win multiplier. You can see for yourself how we fared by hitting the play button below.

Review Summary

Kudos to Pragmatic Play for taking the time and effort to make such a different game than the original. The Kraken itself looks a bit less spooky in this release, compared to the menacing monster you get in the original. The feature department has gone through some drastic changes as well, and it will be interesting to see which installment most players will prefer.

It’s always a good idea to be very specific about the ante bet benefit, as players want to know exactly what they are paying extra for. The roaming wilds respins and shifting stacked wilds keeps the base game interesting, and both features can lead to decent payouts. The 5,000x potential is most likely cracked in the multiplier bonus round though, and it's sliced in half compared to the first game.

If you appreciate Release the Kraken 2 Slot you should also try:

Release the Kraken - is the original Pragmatic Play water world release, and it comes with a more scary-looking Kraken. You get 3 unique base game features in this version, and the bonus round comes with a progressive win multiplier for payouts up to 10,000x your stake.

Beat the Beast Krakens Lair - is the first installment in Thunderkick’s high volatility series, and you get expanding wins in all stages of the game. Winning symbols expand if a wild is involved, and you get a guaranteed wild per bonus round spin. The max win is a solid 7,777x your stake.

Octopus Treasure - is a subsea slot from Play’n Go, and it comes with 4 random modifiers in the base game. A random multiplier up to x10 can also benefit you after any feature, and you get one modifier per spin in the bonus round. This can lead to payouts up to 5,000x your stake.
